Is upgrading from an RTX 5060 Ti to an RX 9070 XT worth it for gaming?

I currently have an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and can run the games I play with DLSS and frame generation. I especially value keeping latency below 50 ms, so I'm not very interested in using extreme 3x or 4x frame-generation modes. The RX 9070 XT would provide considerably more raw performance, but I'm unsure whether AMD's upscaling, frame generation, drivers, and latency features would result in a genuinely better overall experience. The upgrade would cost me very little after selling my current card. Would you make the switch, or keep the 5060 Ti and wait for a newer generation?

I’d probably keep the 5060 Ti for now. You said it already runs your games well, and at 1440p the difference may not transform your experience unless you’re regularly dropping below your preferred frame rate. Waiting for the next generation could provide a more meaningful jump instead of spending money on a card you don’t currently need.

Look at the actual games and resolution you use. If something like Alan Wake 2 or other demanding titles is already forcing you to lower settings, the 9070 XT could make a noticeable difference. If you’re mostly getting smooth performance already, the upgrade is more about headroom than a completely different gaming experience.

The 9070 XT is a substantial raster-performance upgrade and would let you use higher settings or target higher resolutions more comfortably. If your net cost is genuinely small after selling the 5060 Ti, it’s a reasonable upgrade—especially if you care more about native performance than Nvidia-specific features.

The main tradeoff is feature quality. DLSS and Nvidia Reflex are still generally more polished and predictable, while AMD’s FSR and latency tools can involve more compromises or tinkering depending on the game. If low latency and hassle-free frame generation matter most, the 9070 XT’s extra raw power may not automatically feel better.

A lot depends on how much the upgrade actually costs. There’s no universal answer: calculate the price after selling the 5060 Ti, then decide whether the extra performance, higher settings, and longer 1440p or 4K headroom are worth that amount. If the difference is substantial, waiting is safer; if it’s minimal, the 9070 XT is a strong gaming upgrade.

CloudyNectar51: The upgrade makes more sense if the 5060 Ti can be sold for close to what you paid. In that situation, paying a relatively small difference for roughly 40–50% more raster performance is much easier to justify.
