Is upgrading from Ryzen 7 5700 to 5700X3D worth it?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 7 5700 paired with an RTX 5070, playing at 1440p with a 240Hz monitor. Typically, I get around 180-200 FPS but I sometimes notice performance dips in CPU-intensive games. I found a used Ryzen 7 5700X3D for sale, but it's a 3-hour drive and it's already two years old. I'm wondering if the upgrade will provide noticeable improvements in smoothness and lower 1% frame rates.

Your current 5700 is pretty limited, especially since it only has 16MB of L3 cache. The 5700X3D, with its 96MB cache, should give you a solid boost in performance for gaming. Especially at 1440p! Just make sure the price for the used unit is good – around $200 sounds reasonable if it’s in good condition.

Thanks! Yeah, it’s in pretty decent shape, so I might just go for it.

Definitely worth considering the upgrade if you have the non-X version. The 5700X3D offers significantly better performance thanks to its larger L3 cache, which makes a big difference in gaming. You should be able to enjoy smoother gameplay, especially in CPU-heavy titles.

Totally agree! Plus, the L3 cache on the X3D is a huge jump. It's a solid investment if you're running into CPU bottlenecks.

It really depends on the types of games you play. If you're into competitive games and see dips during intense moments, the upgrade would help a lot. It might not be as noticeable in less demanding titles, though.

I play games like Valorant and PUBG regularly, and I've found that having a more robust CPU definitely improves my experience.
