Is upgrading to an AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT a smart choice for my PC?

I'm looking to upgrade my gaming PC since it's struggling to run newer games effectively. Here are my current specs:
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (8 cores / 16 threads)
- RAM: 16 GB
- Motherboard: ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4

I haven't opened my PC in a while, but it's been hard to game due to performance issues, and I'm currently without an ethernet connection which doesn't help. I'm considering upgrading my GPU first and thought about getting an AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT. Is this a good upgrade, or is there something else I should focus on first?

It's great that you're looking to upgrade! Given your current setup, the 2700X is starting to show its age, but you'd likely see significant gains with a new GPU, especially if you're running demanding games like Elden Ring and Black Myth: Wukong. The RX 7800 XT should give you a solid boost in performance, particularly if you're aiming for higher settings and smoother frame rates. Just make sure your power supply can handle it!

What CPU upgrade could I consider after getting the new GPU? I don't want to spend more than $300 for that.

You might also want to check the specifics of your RAM and SSD. Upgrading to faster RAM could complement your new GPU, but keep your budget in mind, which sounds like it's around $600. If you stick with the RX 7800 XT, you should be able to enjoy those demanding titles at good settings!

I'll check on my RAM. I have a single Samsung MZ-NTY1280 128GB SATA M.2 SSD, and I'm aiming for efficiency as well as performance with this upgrade.
