I currently have an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 and 16GB of RAM. My motherboard is a Gigabyte B450M DS3H-CF. While playing Marathon, I'm getting around 60 FPS, but I suspect my CPU is bottlenecking the performance. I'm considering upgrading to the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X. I'm not very tech-savvy, so I'd like some opinions on whether this upgrade would make a noticeable difference or if I would just run into another limitation shortly after. Any other upgrade suggestions are also welcome!

The impact on performance also depends on your monitor's specs. If you’re using a 60Hz 1080p monitor with V-Sync, then 60 FPS is your cap. Disabling V-Sync could lead to screen tearing, so that could affect your gaming experience. Just out of curiosity, what specs does your monitor have?
It should work well, but remember your performance can depend on the game you’re playing. At 1080p, you might still hit CPU limits fairly often. If you're able to spend a bit more, it might be wise to consider options that keep you future-proofed.
The Ryzen 7 5700X should give you a nice boost! It has two more cores and four more threads compared to your 3600, plus higher base and boost clock speeds. You might see an improvement of about 25-35% in gaming performance.
Definitely a worthwhile upgrade if you're running into CPU bottlenecks. The 5700X is solid, especially for gaming.

I have a 144Hz monitor at 1080p, and I’m using it at the max resolution and refresh rate.
