Is using four DDR5 RAM sticks still a bad idea for a high-speed build?

I'm planning a dream PC and want to run high-speed DDR5 memory. I remember hearing that filling all four DIMM slots could cause lower speeds, boot problems, or instability on many systems. Has motherboard and firmware support improved, or is it still better to buy two larger-capacity sticks?

The issue is mainly the motherboard and memory-controller layout, not that four sticks are inherently defective. A board with four slots may support four modules, but its maximum advertised speed is often lower with all slots populated. Check the motherboard’s memory support list and firmware notes, but don’t assume the speed listed for two sticks will work with four.

For most mainstream DDR5 platforms, two sticks are still the safer choice when you want high speeds. Four DIMMs put more strain on the CPU’s memory controller, so the system may need to lower the memory frequency or loosen timings to remain stable.
