Issues with GoDaddy SPF Records for Email

Has anyone else experienced issues with email rejections related to GoDaddy's services? Over the past three months, I've had multiple clients reach out, confused because their emails to us are bouncing back with rejection notices. After looking into it, it seems the problem stems from them using Proofpoint Essentials, and their SPF records only include mail.protection.outlook.com. It's always the same story—GoDaddy as the registrar or DNS host. I'm getting frustrated explaining to clients who aren't tech-savvy why their email settings are incorrect. Did GoDaddy start offering Proofpoint Essentials recently without properly updating the necessary SPF records?

It really depends on who manages the domain's DNS. Based on what you've shared, it might not be solely GoDaddy's fault. Different setups can lead to issues, and you need to make sure the SPF records are correct on the client's side.

In every case, the DNS servers have been with GoDaddy, which can complicate things even further.

True, but if the clients don’t have their SPF records set up correctly, it wouldn’t matter which registrar they’re using. A lot of companies stick with GoDaddy for their DNS.

You might want to consider not using hard fails for SPF. Instead, focus on respecting the DMARC record, as it can help avoid delivery issues. However, be cautious with this advice.

I’d avoid that suggestion. Not enforcing hard fails can lead to more spoofed emails getting through, which isn’t ideal.
