I've been working on updating our offboarding procedures for OneDrive and I want my admins to be able to manually use the 'copy to' feature for a user's OneDrive. This is important in cases where our offboarding script can't be used, especially when dealing with larger OneDrive accounts. The problem I'm facing is that Microsoft takes a frustratingly long time—often an hour or more—to apply a new PIM role, which means any attempt to access the OneDrive results in an error. It's also crucial that the admin has access to the right site or folder because that can take additional time for permissions to update. Honestly, it's tempting for many admins to just stick to a global admin role instead of dealing with these delays.

It seems like the delays are often related to specific services. Purview and its associated roles seem particularly sluggish, whereas roles through other modules are quicker to activate. It’s super annoying that this has been an ongoing issue for years.
Definitely, using the Entra portal tends to be faster for role changes compared to the regular Microsoft portal. I've found most role activations are pretty quick in Entra, usually under 20 seconds. But sometimes, the waiting for the admin portal is a drag.
I've noticed that it usually only takes about 15 seconds for me to activate a PIM role. But that being said, everyone’s experience can vary. If you stick to the roles page without jumping around to other admin pages, it often works smoother after activation.
That hasn't been my experience. Sometimes I find myself waiting 10 minutes or more; it's more like a game of patience before I can get back to work.
I've had mixed experiences too. Sometimes it really just depends on the role you’re trying to activate. Some take mere seconds while others drag on for what feels like an eternity. It’s really unpredictable!

Yeah, I've also faced the same problem. Purview’s slow role assignments really slow things down.
