My HP EliteBook 745 G6 freezes on the Windows welcome screen after I enabled the integrated AMD Radeon Vega 10 graphics adapter. Before this, the graphics device was not appearing under Display adapters and seemed to be using a generic Microsoft driver. I noticed the AMD adapter while trying to install a graphics driver through HP Support Assistant, then enabled it. After shutting down and starting the laptop again, Windows became stuck at the welcome screen. I need the laptop for school and would appreciate help recovering it.

Try starting Windows in Safe Mode. From the sign-in screen, hold Shift while selecting Restart, then go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings and choose Safe Mode. In Device Manager, expand Display adapters, then disable or uninstall the AMD Radeon Vega 10 device and restart normally. After Windows is working again, install the graphics driver specifically for the HP EliteBook 745 G6 from HP’s support page, or use the current compatible AMD driver. Windows may otherwise fall back to the generic Microsoft display driver.

The AMD adapter was missing from Display adapters until I found it while installing a driver. I enabled it, shut the laptop down, and afterward it started freezing at the welcome screen. I’ll try Safe Mode to disable it again.
