Laptop Powers On but Shows a Black Screen After Replacing Thermal Paste

I replaced the thermal paste in my Acer Nitro 5 and disconnected the battery before working inside. After putting everything back together, the laptop powers on and the keyboard backlight comes on, but the display stays completely black. The fans spin for a few seconds and then stop, while the keyboard lighting remains on, making it seem like the system is hanging during startup. I've checked that the parts and ribbon cables I disconnected are seated properly, and I also tried redoing the thermal paste, but the problem hasn't changed. What should I check next, and is there a safe way to troubleshoot or fix this?

The most likely cause is a connection that isnโ€™t fully seated, especially the display ribbon cable, battery connector, keyboard cable, or another board connection near the heatsink. Unplug the charger and battery again, then carefully disconnect and reconnect each cable you touched. Check for bent pins, torn cable ends, or a connector latch that isnโ€™t closed. Also make sure no screw, washer, or loose object is causing a short.

Redoing the thermal paste usually wonโ€™t fix a no-display problem by itself, unless paste got onto the board or the heatsink was installed unevenly. Inspect the motherboard carefully for spilled paste, damaged components, or a misplaced screw. Make sure the heatsink is tightened evenly and that no protective film was left on a thermal pad. After reconnecting the battery, hold the power button for about 30 seconds with the charger disconnected, then reconnect power and try again.

Since the laptop was opened, try removing and reseating the RAM as well. A slightly disturbed memory module can cause the system to power on without displaying anything. If there are two sticks, test one at a time in the recommended slot. You can also connect an external monitor to determine whether this is only a laptop-screen issue or whether the machine is failing before it reaches startup.
