I was watching a movie with an HDMI cable connected when my Asus UX430 running Windows 11 went to sleep. After waking it, the built-in laptop display stayed blank, although external monitors still work normally. This happened once before, and I remember fixing it by re-enabling the internal display because it seemed to have been hidden or disconnected in Windows. I'm fairly sure this isn't a hardware failure, but I can't remember the setting or steps that restored the screen last time.

Right-click the desktop and open Display settings. Check whether display 1, which is usually the built-in panel, is greyed out or set to “Disconnect this display.” Select it and change the option to extend or duplicate the desktop. If it already appears enabled, open Device Manager, remove the display adapter driver, and restart so Windows can reinstall it automatically.

I’ve already tried those steps, including checking the display settings and reinstalling the driver. I’m reasonably comfortable troubleshooting, but this also happened last year and I can’t remember the specific setting that brought the internal display back.
