Laptop won’t turn back on after shutting down unexpectedly

I've been having some issues with my laptop for a while now. Recently, the bottom has started splitting, and I tried to fix one side with duct tape. The other side started splitting a few weeks later, but I haven't taped it yet. Then, while I was watching a video, it suddenly shut off. I moved it a bit while it was flipped like a tablet (I'm not great with tech terms), and it completely went black. The power light isn't coming on, even though it had been charging for hours and was at a high battery percentage. I'm looking for advice on what I can do to fix it, as I really can't afford to buy a new one!

Honestly, it sounds like you're going to need a new laptop. If the internal parts are broken, fixing this might not be worth it. I get the struggle—it's tough when money's tight.

Investigate your laptop for a hidden reset button underneath; sometimes you can reset it by pressing it with a paperclip. Could be worth a shot before spending on repairs.

Honestly, you might not want to try fixing this yourself. The splitting means your battery could be swelling, which is dangerous. You should not turn your laptop on until it's checked out. It's safest to have that battery removed right away since swelling can lead to fires. It's better to get it looked at rather than risk it.

If the battery is bulging, it's a sign it's faulty. Check to see if you can replace the battery—you might get lucky and be able to get it working again! But diagnosing issues over text can be tricky. If you want, send a pic of the bottom; I might be able to help more!

Since you're not super tech-savvy, it's probably best to take your laptop to a professional. The splitting suggests that your battery might be swollen and causing issues. Most laptops can run without a battery if you configure it correctly. I recommend finding a local repair shop; they should be able to remove the battery and maybe replace it too. Cost-wise, it's usually around $100 or so, give or take.
