League of Legends Drops to 3 FPS After NVIDIA Driver Update

After updating to the latest NVIDIA graphics driver, League of Legends became nearly unplayable. The game previously ran normally, but now it falls to about 3 FPS as soon as a match begins. Switching both the client and game to the high-performance GPU does not help, and lowering the graphics settings makes no difference. Tabbing out and back in briefly restores 30–40 FPS before it drops again. The game and Vanguard have already been uninstalled and reinstalled several times. There was also a VAN57 Vanguard error at launch, which was fixed through Windows Services. Could the new driver be causing the performance issue, and what is the best way to fix or roll it back?

Since the problem started immediately after the NVIDIA update, try dealing with the driver before reinstalling the game again. NVIDIA usually keeps older driver releases available, and the NVIDIA app may also let you roll back to the previous version. A clean installation of a known-good older driver could confirm whether the update caused the issue.

I reinstalled the current driver a few times, but I don't remember which version I had before. Is there a relatively stable recent driver version I should try rolling back to?
