My Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 was returned after being loaned out and was completely drained. I charged it fully, but it still will not boot normally. The backlit keyboard flashes briefly, the screen stays blank, and the rear fan runs at a steady medium speed. Holding the power button for two minutes, pressing the built-in reset button, and using Ctrl+Shift+Windows+B had no effect. The charging indicator suggests the battery is full, and the laptop becomes warm, so it appears to be powered on without producing any usable display or response. I urgently need the computer for dissertation work. It was later determined that the motherboard had failed and the laptop could not be returned to working condition.

It would help to determine whether Windows is actually booting or whether the system is stuck before startup. Testing with an external monitor could distinguish a display problem from a motherboard or boot failure, although the eventual diagnosis in this case was a failed motherboard.

Since the fan is running and the laptop is getting warm, it may be powering on but failing during startup rather than being completely dead. A faulty charger or power connection can also cause similar symptoms, so testing with a known-good compatible charger would be worthwhile.
