Looking for a video player to play all files in a folder with random and favorites options

I'm on the hunt for a video player that can shuffle and play all the files in a directory, including any subdirectories, and allow me to mark my favorite videos. I've tried programs like VLC, but they only let you drag in files from a folder and play them in random order, which isn't exactly what I need. I have a bunch of TV shows stored on my computer, usually organized in folders, and sometimes I just want to kick back and watch something at random. Plus, I want the ability to favorite certain shows and have that selection remembered each time I launch the player. Does anyone know of a player that fits these requirements?

I think Winamp does something like that! It has options for playing random files and managing favorites.

Have you tried using MPC? It's simple and effective for playing your video files.

You might want to check out Plex! It has a shuffle feature that randomly plays your videos, and it's pretty intuitive to use.

You could ask ChatGPT to help you create a script that generates an m3u playlist and load it in VLC. That way, you can control what plays without much hassle!

Honestly, you can just set up playlists in VLC. It’s not the exact feature you’re looking for, but it can get the job done with a bit of tweaking.

MediaPortal could be a good fit for you. It's made for use on dedicated home theater PCs, but it works for playing videos from folders too. Plex and Emby are also alternatives worth considering.
