Hey everyone,

I'm reaching out to get some advice on backup solutions for our company's virtual machines. We have six ESXi hosts and around fifty VMs, with a mix of critical and medium-critical systems. Currently, we're using Rubrik with a significant storage setup, but I suspect we're overspending on it. Management is pushing me to find a more budget-friendly option. I've noticed Nakivo seems to be cheaper, but I'd love to hear your opinions based on your own experiences. What backup solutions have you found to be effective, and what would you recommend for our type of setup? I appreciate any insights you can share!

I've been using Nakivo for about five years and have had great success with it. It's been reliable for backing up our ESXi VMs, and the latest updates even let us back up VMs from our Proxmox cluster. Quite happy with the performance!

Nice! We've been considering Nakivo too. Hearing good things about it lately.

I've had great luck with Veeam. Their pricing is competitive and they offer solid functionality. Definitely a top choice for VM backups!

Totally agree! Veeam is the go-to for many in our field, but I sometimes wonder how long they can keep this up without hiking prices.

We just renewed with Rubrik because their cloud solutions are expanding, and the backups have been quite solid. Just be sure to negotiate; they can offer better renewal rates if they know you're thinking of switching!

Good tip! A little negotiation can go a long way with these providers.

If you're not too deep into the Rubrik ecosystem, switching to Veeam might be worth considering. Just keep in mind that it's a software-only solution—so you’ll need to figure out your storage strategy to separate it from your VMs.

Yeah, having the right storage setup is crucial! You can't just rely solely on cloud solutions for quick backups.

Make sure to check what your cyber insurance requires for backups. Some policies are strict and could lead to extra costs if you're not compliant with their backup standards.
