I'm currently using Site24x7 to monitor my servers and I'm on the hunt for a more straightforward alternative. Ideally, I'm looking for an open-source, on-premises solution that is really easy to set up. I've heard Zabbix is great, but I honestly don't have the time to spend months getting it up and running.
I'm only monitoring about 10 Linux servers, needing basic metrics like CPU and memory, plus a few network switches. I also need to create a custom monitor for an API endpoint, to track metrics over time like disk utilization.
It would be nice to have high availability pollers, but it's not essential. Since we have two sites that aren't connected via VPN or SDWAN, that needs to be addressed too. I checked out Checkmk, but I found the interface a bit overwhelming with too much information.
To sum it up, I'm looking for something that offers:
- Monitoring for 10 Linux hosts (CPU, memory, disk, etc.)
- Custom API monitoring for non-SNMP applications
- SNMP monitoring for network switches and PDUs
- Potential for syslog ingestion, but I can use another tool for logging if needed
- A simple interface where I can quickly log in and start adding hosts.

Check out CheckMK! It’s free, open-source, and you can have basic checks up and running in about two hours. Super user-friendly!
Librenms is another option! It has an easy setup and offers straightforward monitoring and graphing. Might fit your needs perfectly!
For a simple deployment, Lansweeper is great! I’ve used it a couple of times and it was both easy to set up and cost-effective, though you might need to confirm if it meets all your requirements. Plus, my current experience with PRTG has been smooth so far—auto-discovery works like a charm!
I’m a fan of CheckMK too, it’s seriously solid! Just works well without too much hassle. 👍
PRTG is worth considering! Even though they dropped perpetual licenses, it’s really easy to set up and manage. Perfect for what you need!

Lansweeper does sound interesting! Glad to hear PRTG is treating you well, especially with its auto-discovery!
