I'm building my first PC and I've already picked up an RTX 5080 and some RAM. I was set on getting the 9800X3D, but I've heard reports about it burning out or failing. Is that still a concern? Also, is there an Intel processor that would stack up against the 9800X3D if I need to switch gears?

Yeah, the 9800X3D does have burning issues. There isn't a direct equivalent from Intel either. It's a serious risk if you decide to go with it. People have had trouble especially with Asrock motherboards which have shown big failure rates. It's like playing with fire! But there are users who have had their 9800X3D running fine despite those risks—it really comes down to how your motherboard settings and other components play together.
I think the 9850 is dropping this Thursday. If you're considering going big, you might want to wait for that and see how it performs!

If you go with an MSI board and undervolt it, you should be in a safer spot. That's definitely a smarter move if you're leaning towards the 9800X3D!
