I feel you on the tax concern. I moved to Japan a couple of years back and, while renouncing citizenship isn't an option for me, I've managed to avoid taxes since my US income is below the threshold for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion. Just a heads up, you'll have to deal with your investment and retirement accounts if you decide to renounce. Think carefully about it!

Ecuador is another great option since it's Spanish-speaking and pretty easy for expats to settle in. Not sure how strong the IT market is, though.
If you're good with Spanish, consider Costa Rica! I've got friends who live there, and they enjoy it quite a bit. The IT community might be smaller, but it's worth checking out.

Most places abroad tend to pay less for IT jobs compared to the US since many companies outsource. My advice would be to secure a remote job while you’re still in the US, allowing you to transition overseas smoothly. I'm looking into Southeast Asia or Europe myself, and my boss is cool with me working remotely as long as I stick to US hours.
