Looking for Open Source Backup Tools for Hyper-V and Host Machines

Good morning, everyone! I'm on the hunt for an open-source tool that can handle local backups of virtual machines running on Hyper-V. Additionally, I need a solution that can perform full (bare metal) backups of the host machine as well. Does TrueNAS fit the bill, or does anyone have other suggestions for reliable open-source tools?

I’ve used Zamanda in the past, which is based on Amanda (an open-source solution) but offers paid support. It lets you choose your backup repository, so you can save your data on the cloud, tape, or disk.

You might want to consider VEEAM's Community Edition. It’s not open-source, but it’s free and pretty powerful, allowing up to ten workloads. Plus, they have a free version for backing up Office 365, which is nice to know.

I actually use PowerShell to export my VMs over to a NAS. It’s a solid free option, and you can set it up to run on a schedule within Windows, which makes things super convenient.

Just a thought—do you really need to back up the host machine? If it's just acting as a hypervisor, you might be better off keeping installation media handy and just exporting the individual VMs to a safe location.
