I'm a college student looking to transition from Windows to Linux. I mainly use my laptop for studying, coding, and a bit of gaming, particularly with titles like Assetto Corsa. I'm tired of the complicated nature of Windows and want something more streamlined and user-friendly. Can anyone recommend a good Linux distribution for my needs?

Linux Mint is super user-friendly, especially for someone making the jump from Windows. I personally use CachyOS, which is great for managing graphics drivers easily. If you're into gaming, it might be worth looking at something like Bazzite KDE too!

If you want something super sleek and rock-solid, go for Aurora or Bazzite KDE. They're known to be beginner-friendly, up-to-date, and everything works straight out of the box. Compared to Ubuntu and Mint, which some see as a bit outdated, these might give you a better experience.

In my experience, Ubuntu or Mint are the best choices for those switching from Windows. Zorin has gained a lot of hype from YouTubers but I'm not sure how it holds up for new users.

A fun way to figure out which distro you like is to get a USB drive with at least 64GB of space and install Ventoy on it. Then, download the ISO files for any distros you’re interested in. This way, you can try them all out without committing to one right away.

You might want to check out a YouTube channel called ExplainingComputers. They have a great video on transitioning to Linux, which will give you a solid idea of what to expect. Honestly, you can't really go wrong with options like Ubuntu, Fedora, or Linux Mint for beginners!
