Looking to Upgrade from Console Gamings – Where Should I Start?

I've got around $1500 to spend on upgrading from a console to a gaming PC, including taxes. I'm hoping to keep it under $1550 max. I already own a 1440p monitor and plan to game at that resolution. I'm into both competitive games and narrative-driven ones, and I want this setup to last for about five years. I'm in the US and would rather avoid buying used components since I'm not very experienced with building PCs. If possible, I'd like a Montech XR or a similar-style case. Any advice would be appreciated!

Do you have a Micro Center nearby? They often have great deals on components and prebuilt systems!

Unfortunately, it's a five-hour trip for me, so that's not an option.

Here’s a good starting point for you: check out these builds on PCPartPicker – one with Intel (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/YnC8MF) and another with AMD (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/PfC8MF). Just a heads up, prices for RAM and SSDs are through the roof right now, so be prepared for that!

These builds look awesome, but they may be a little over my budget. Do you have any more affordable options?

If you want to play it safe, consider getting a prebuilt from Costco. They have some decent options that could fit your needs without the hassle of building it yourself.

Have a look at this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Ycjn7w. It should fit well within your budget and meet your gaming needs pretty nicely!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll check that one out.
