I'm a software developer trying to decide between the MacBook Air M5 and the MacBook Pro M5.
Here are the configurations I'm considering:
- **MacBook Air**: 13-inch, 10-core CPU & GPU, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD for $1579.
- **MacBook Pro**: 14-inch, 10-core CPU, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD for $1600.
Both models have the M5 chip. I'm wondering if I should go for the extra 8GB of RAM in the Air, considering both options are similarly priced, or if the MacBook Pro would be a better choice overall due to its display quality. I plan on using it for personal projects in AI and machine learning, so any insights would be greatly appreciated!

This is a tough choice! If you don’t run low on RAM often, the Pro will definitely handle tasks like compiling and training ML models better thanks to its fan cooling. Just keep in mind that if you do start maxing out your RAM, swapping can slow things down a lot. But 24GB isn't exactly 'way too little' either.
If the prices are so close, I’d probably go for the Air with 32GB of RAM. For AI and ML work, more RAM is typically more beneficial than the Pro’s slightly better display and cooling. 24GB can work, but having 32GB gives you more flexibility for larger models or multiple tools running together.
It really depends on your workload. I use a 24GB Air at work but it tends to struggle with Docker and an IDE running at the same time. Throw in a few browser tabs, and it runs hot and can be slow. I'd suggest the Pro and its extra 24GB RAM, even though that's not one of your options.
