I'm new to Linux and installed Linux Mint 22.3 alongside Windows 10. My PC has a Ryzen 7 5700, 32 GB of RAM, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, and a Samsung 4K TV connected as the display. Mint initially booted normally using its generic graphics driver. After opening the driver manager and installing the recommended Nvidia driver, I restarted the computer. Mint now boots until the logo disappears, then the TV reports no signal. This happens with both available Mint boot options, so I have to power the PC off manually. The boot menu is also behaving strangely: one press of an arrow key sometimes moves the selection by two entries, and the keyboard occasionally repeats characters. Is this likely a faulty or immature Nvidia driver, and can I switch back to a more stable driver without reinstalling Mint? I mainly want to use the system for Steam and Epic games, emulation, streaming, game development, video editing, Blender, and other creative work.

The display problem is probably related to the Nvidia driver rather than Mint being unsuitable for your hardware. If you can reach a text console with Ctrl+Alt+F3 or boot into recovery mode, remove or roll back the installed driver and try the nvidia-driver-580-open package instead. Some recent recommended driver versions have caused display issues on certain systems. Once you can reach the desktop again, the Driver Manager should let you change the selected version.
I’m having trouble getting that far because the keyboard is laggy and sometimes repeats each key. Selecting an operating system in the boot menu is already difficult, so I’m worried I may need to reinstall everything.
