I've got an APC SM C 1500 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that's started making an intermittent buzzing noise. I'm worried it could be the transformer or something else aging inside it. I found some info on the APC support site mentioning that shielding may fall apart over time. Is this something I can fix myself, or is it better to just replace it? If it's not easily fixable, could I sell it for anything? It has to be around 15-20 years old.

Honestly, I'd recommend just replacing it. UPS units should generally be budgeted for replacement every few years to avoid issues.
It sounds like the inverter might be dying on you. It's better not to take chances with older units like that.
Just curious, is this still in use at work or is it more of a relic in your home lab?
You should definitely replace it to avoid any fire hazards. It's not worth the risk!
That sounds a bit dramatic, don’t you think?
