My Computer is Stuck in a Restart Loop After Installing Updates

I just got a computer from a friend that runs on Linux Mint, and I'm really new to this. After starting it up, I opened the terminal and ran the commands 'sudo apt update' and 'sudo apt upgrade.' After that, the computer restarted. But when I select Linux Mint, it doesn't fully load; the screen goes black partway into loading the desktop. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

It sounds like your computer is having trouble booting normally. Just a heads up, you mentioned using CMD, but that's actually called the terminal in Linux. When you boot up, you'll see a screen with options like GNU GRUB; make sure you select the right one. If the screen goes black, try pressing Ctrl + Alt + F1 to F6 to access a different terminal screen. If that doesn't work, let us know what happens!

Thanks for replying! I do see the GNU GRUB screen with options to select Linux Mint or advanced options. When I don’t choose anything, it attempts to load the desktop but then black screens. The Ctrl + Alt + F1 to F6 keys don’t work unless I choose recovery mode, and then it boots fine.
