My External Hard Drive Isn't Showing Up on Any Computer, What Can I Do?

I'm having a real issue with my external hard drive, which I bought last spring and recently started using. It holds a lot of important college files, but now it won't show up on my personal computer or my boyfriend's laptop. I used it just yesterday, and today it's completely unresponsive. It's a UnionSine 500GB drive, and I'm freaking out. Does anyone have suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem or recover my files?

Have you checked if it's making any sounds when you plug it in? Sometimes the lights that indicate it's on can also help you know if it's working. If you haven't already, try using a different USB cable to see if that helps. Just make sure to check if it feels warm where the cord connects, which could mean it's getting power. That might give you a clue if there's something wrong with the drive itself.

You could try searching for "create or format hard disk partitions" in the Windows search bar. This will open the disk manager, which might show if your external drive is at least recognized by the system. If you can't see it there, it could be worth checking the manufacturer's website for any specific drivers or software that might help.

From what I've heard, UnionSine isn't exactly a well-known brand. There's a chance that you might have a counterfeit drive, especially if it seems to stop working suddenly after being full. Just be cautious; when these fakes get overloaded, they can fail.
