My Laptop Charger Stopped Working Suddenly – Is My Laptop Damaged?

I was using my laptop charger while watching TV when I noticed the charger was fully charged. Just as I was about to unplug it, I heard a loud noise, something I've heard before when it rains. After that noise, my charger stopped working immediately, and my laptop, which was fully charged, shut off. I tried turning it back on and looked up how to fix a laptop not working, but nothing worked. I'm worried that my charger may have exploded and affected my laptop too. Do you think my laptop might be damaged, and will using a different charger help?

It sounds like a voltage spike could've fried the DC input in your laptop. If your charger really did explode, I'd say it’s very likely there’s some internal damage, unfortunately.

It's hard to say for sure, but if your laptop was charged well and now it won't turn on, it does sound like there might have been some damage from that charger. Definitely a concern in that case.

Are you using the original charger that came with your laptop? What wattage is it? Just because your laptop was charged doesn’t guarantee that a short didn’t cause any damage. If there was no surge protector involved, it’s probably best to take it in for service. Your data could be fine, but who knows what else might have happened.

Yeah, I was using the original Apple charger. I haven’t checked the wattage, but it charges quickly, and I’ve never had any issues with that socket before.
