My Microphone Isn’t Recognized on My New Laptop—Any Fixes?

Hey everyone! I'm reaching out because I'm having a tough time with my new HP 255 laptop running Windows 11. The microphone isn't working at all, and it doesn't even show up anywhere on the device manager or settings. I've checked multiple times, so I know it's not there. I suspect there might not be a driver installed for it. I tried following a tutorial to install an audio driver, but I ran into an error. I'm hoping someone might have some hints or solutions before I decide to take it to a professional. Any help would mean a lot!

First things first, check Device Manager again. Go to "View" and select "Show Hidden Devices." Then click "Scan for Hardware Changes" and see if the microphone appears. Also, make sure you've checked the microphone access settings in Windows. Don't forget to look for any Fn key that might control the microphone.

If that doesn't do the trick, head over to the HP website for your laptop model and download the Chipset and Realtek Audio drivers. If you still have issues, try running the Windows Sound troubleshooter and consider installing the HP Support Assistant Tool—it should help detect any missing drivers. Finally, double-check your BIOS settings for any microphone-related options.

I’m a bit confused about those chipset drivers. Are they something specific? I feel like I can't find them anywhere, and I’ve already tried everything else you mentioned. Plus, running the troubleshooter doesn’t hint at any missing microphone drivers, which is frustrating. I did download the Realtek audio driver, but all it did was activate stereo mix, not help at all with the mic. I also checked the BIOS, and it’s all set to enabled, so I’m really stuck here.
