My PC’s Screen Turned Black and Taskbar is Limited

I was using my PC when suddenly the screen went completely black. I thought it might have gone to sleep or there was a glitch, but no matter what I clicked or pressed, it stayed blank. After a restart, the desktop background changed to an unfamiliar image, and all my desktop icons were missing. It felt like my system loaded a temporary profile because I couldn't interact with the desktop at all. The taskbar at the bottom still worked, allowing me to open some applications, but the rest of the desktop was unresponsive. I've tried a few fixes like using the Control Center and restarting the taskbar from Task Manager, but nothing worked. What else can I do?

I fixed a similar issue by right-clicking on the black background and selecting 'Show Icons'. It was a simple fix that might work for you, too!

Check the Reliability Monitor from your taskbar. Just search for it to see if any issues are flagged. I had a similar issue once, and it turned out a Windows update had failed, even though it was still showing in my update history. I uninstalled that update, restarted, and everything went back to normal. If you find a problem there, let me know. Otherwise, we could try running a Command Prompt system scan with "sfc /scannow" to repair any corrupted files.
