Hey everyone! I have a basic gaming PC that's running low on storage space. I've checked my motherboard's specs through cmd and found some details about the slots and storage options. Here's what I found:
For the Intel^® 11th Gen & 10th Gen Processors, there's:
- 1 x PCIe 4.0 x16 Slot
For the Intel^® H470 Chipset, there's:
- 1 x PCIe 3.0 x1 Slot
As for storage, the chipset includes:
- 1 x Ultra M.2 Socket that supports type 2260/2280 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s & PCIe Gen3x4 modes
- 4 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s Connectors
Right now, I have 1 SSD and 1 HDD, but I'm thinking about adding another hard drive since games take up so much space! Can someone clarify if I can install another internal HDD or SSD and suggest some good options? Thanks a lot!

You're looking in the right direction with storage! The slots are mainly for devices like GPUs. Since you have an SSD, I’m guessing it’s connected via M.2. You can definitely add either another internal HDD or SSD – it all depends on what kind of speed and capacity you’re after. If your current SSD is M.2, you might consider another SSD of the same type for faster load times. If you want more storage without breaking the bank, an additional HDD is a solid choice too!
Definitely focus on the storage section of your motherboard specs! You have 4 SATA ports available, so you can easily add a traditional HDD or a SATA SSD. If you just want to increase storage capacity, a larger HDD (like 4TB) could be a good bet, especially since they’re often more affordable at higher capacities!
You might want to try installing Speccy to get detailed information about your system, including storage options. It could help visualize where you can add more drives. Plus, you’ll get insights on your current drives!
Yeah, I agree. If you go for an SSD, look for something with good read/write speeds. But if you go with an HDD, maybe consider a 2TB or larger for games!
