Need Help Building a Gaming PC for My Boyfriend

I'm looking to surprise my boyfriend with a gaming PC for his birthday, ideally spending around $1000, but I can stretch it to $1200 if needed. He's been playing Call of Duty on my PS5, which he seems to have taken over! I want to ensure the PC outperforms the PS5. Any recommendations for a solid build would be great, and I'd also appreciate any video tutorials on how to put it together. Thanks!

Just a heads-up—competing directly with a PS5's performance is tough in the $1000-$1200 range, especially since you'll need additional costs for monitors and peripherals. However, if he already has a decent 240Hz OLED monitor connected to the PS5, a good gaming PC could definitely outperform it with the right setup!

He does have a nice monitor, so I’m mostly focusing on the PC.

Actually, a well-chosen PC setup can perform better than a PS5—especially with the right specs like a Ryzen 7600X and a solid GPU!

For a build around $1,000, focus on used GPUs like the RX 7800 XT or RTX 4070, as buying new is pretty pricey. Pair that with a Ryzen 5 7600 CPU, a decent B650 motherboard, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, a 1TB NVMe SSD, and a quality PSU with airflow case. This setup will give you great performance in CoD at 1440p.

Check out this YouTube channel that posts monthly build videos across different budgets. You can find a solid PC build for $1000 easily. Here's the link: https://youtu.be/kxlkmGWABwM?si=Ma4p9mVJ0_9GE-zE

You could consider checking out stores like Micro Center for PC parts, where they also offer help with building within your budget. Another option is buying a pre-built PC from Best Buy that'll run Call of Duty and more. It might save you some trouble!

Yeah, his friends have just gotten PCs, so that’s part of why he really wants one!
