Need Help Choosing a Replacement PC on a Budget

My laptop is nearing the end of its life after three years of ups and downs. It struggles to connect to Wi-Fi without a signal extender, and my storage is painfully limited to 4 TB on the motherboard, leaving me unable to use an additional 2 TB from another drive. I'm looking for a new computer that can handle gaming and the occasional homework assignment. Ideally, I'd like something that's not pre-built and I have a budget of around $1000 to $1500, though I can stretch it a bit. I've found two potential builds, but I'm uncertain which is better or if I'm getting a fair deal. Here are the builds I've been considering: [Build 1](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GJfg2m) and [Build 2](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mjbXmC). Any advice would be appreciated!

Just a heads up, prices right now are pretty absurd for RAM and other components, but with some patience, you can still get a decent rig! Just make sure to do thorough research before deciding on specs and prices, so you don't end up getting scammed.

The components in your builds are quite old and not worth the prices listed. I’ve got some newer builds for you that won't break the bank. For performance, check out these options instead: [Build 1](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fHLJzP) and [Build 2](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GVRJzP). The second build is pricier but packs a punch if you're looking for more power! If you need storage, check out refurbished drives with warranties from sites like serverpartdeals.com. They're a good deal!

Here's another option that’s $110 cheaper than your builds, with a better GPU and CPU. It still leaves you some cash for a monitor, keyboard, or mouse if you need those too: [Alternative Build](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MHKBgn).

Honestly, both builds you found are a bit outdated and overpriced. I suggest you just go to a forum like buildapcforme and post your budget there without all the details. They can help you find better and current builds. Otherwise, look for something on PCPartPicker that fits your criteria.

I appreciate the insight! I did check PCPartPicker before posting, but I’ll definitely ask for help from the buildapcforme community.

For your budget, I'd recommend looking for a prebuilt PC since they often give you the best value for your money. If you have a Costco nearby, check them out for some good deals on gaming PCs. You might be surprised at what they offer!

That's a good tip! I wouldn't have thought of Costco for computer deals either, but it makes sense.
