I'm having a tough time trying to install Kubuntu on my friend's old laptop, which currently has Windows 10 on it. I flashed the Kubuntu 25.10 ISO onto an 8GB USB drive and set it as the boot priority in the BIOS. However, after selecting "Try / Install Kubuntu," I get stuck on a screen that says there are no partitions available for installation, and it mentions needing at least 8GB of space. I attempted to partition the C Drive in Windows, which is around 500GB, and created a 200GB partition, but I still face the same issue when I restart and try the installer again. I also think the laptop has an SSD, and the partition I made is NTFS, but I didn't have an option for FAT32. I'm quite new to Linux and just want to wipe Windows completely or at least dual boot if necessary. Any suggestions?

First off, try booting from the live USB and open the partition manager in Kubuntu. You might need to delete all existing partitions on the drive since Windows formatting can cause issues. After that, start the installation again. Just make sure to disable secure boot in your BIOS to avoid any hiccups during the install.
If you're still having issues, just delete the partition you created for Kubuntu. The installer might not recognize it as it is formatted as NTFS, and use the free space to create a new partition directly within the Linux installer. That should work better.
You don’t actually have to install Kubuntu directly; you can install the standard Ubuntu and then just add the Kubuntu desktop environment afterwards. It's pretty easy and might save you some trouble!
