PC Keeps Shutting Down After Installing New CPU Cooler – What’s Going On?

I recently installed a Deepcool AK400 Zero Dark Plus CPU Cooler, and as a first-time builder, I'm running into some issues. Since the installation, my PC has been shutting down randomly, though thankfully not during gaming. Most of the time, it happens when the system is idle.

I'm starting to wonder if the alcohol solution I used (70% isopropyl) to clean off the old thermal paste could be a problem since I learned that it should ideally be 99%. Additionally, I'm concerned that my PSU might not be up to the task. I'm using a 650W Atom Bronze Tier PSU that's almost three years old. Here are my specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 5600G
- GPU: RTX 3060 8GB
- RAM: 32GB 3200MHz
- PSU: 650W Bronze

Could this be a power issue, an overheating concern, or is it related to the alcohol solution I used? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Did you remember to remove the protective sticker from the cooler before installation? It’s a common oversight that can cause issues.

Definitely consider reseating anything you can, like the GPU, motherboard power connectors, and fan headers. Also, don't forget to check if there's any protective sticker under your new heatsink that you might’ve missed. If your PSU has a switch for 120/240 volts, ensure it’s set correctly for your area. Since it shuts down mostly when idling without any blue screens, resetting the CMOS might also help. As for the 70% alcohol, it’s fine to use; just make sure it’s completely evaporated before applying new thermal paste.

I reseated everything as you suggested, and I'm hoping it doesn't shut down again. Also glad to know I can use the 70% alcohol; I've already ordered a higher concentration just in case!

It might help to reseat your CPU and RAM first. That could fix some connection issues.
