I'm helping my younger cousin troubleshoot a PC with an RX 570, Ryzen 5 1600, 16 GB of DDR4 memory, and an A320M-A Pro motherboard. It was working normally until Windows started looping after he entered his PIN. He restarted it, and Windows displayed an "updates are underway" message. After waiting only 5–10 minutes, he manually powered the computer off. Since then, the PC turns on but does not boot. I've already reseated the RAM and reset the CMOS, but neither helped. Could the interrupted update have corrupted Windows, and what should I test before assuming the CPU or another component has failed?

The forced shutdown may have corrupted Windows, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the hard drive needs replacing. First check whether the computer can reach the BIOS or show a manufacturer logo. If it can, the hardware is probably posting and the issue is more likely Windows or the boot drive. Try Windows recovery or a bootable installation USB and use Startup Repair or System Restore. Reinstalling Windows is another option if recovery fails, but back up important files first.
Before blaming the operating system, confirm whether there is any display output at all. Reseat the graphics card and its power cable, make sure the monitor is connected to the RX 570 rather than the motherboard video ports, and test with one RAM stick at a time. Also verify that the storage drive is detected in BIOS. If the BIOS never appears, the problem is probably hardware; if BIOS works but Windows does not load, repairing or reinstalling Windows is the more likely fix.
Right. A corrupted update can prevent Windows from starting without physically damaging the drive. Replace it only if the drive is missing from BIOS, reports errors, or fails diagnostics.
So a new drive isn’t automatically required? I should check BIOS and try recovery or a Windows USB first?
