I recently upgraded my Ryzen 5 5600G to a Ryzen 7500G, and a few weeks later the computer started shutting down almost immediately after pressing the power button. The fans and lights run for about two seconds, then everything stops, and there is no display or other activity. Before this started, temperatures stayed below 68°C and the CPU was not overclocked. I tried plugging the PC directly into the wall instead of using a UPS, replacing the motherboard's CMOS battery, and disconnecting all USB devices, but nothing changed. I'm not very experienced with PC troubleshooting. What is the safest way to determine whether the power supply, motherboard, or another component is causing the problem?

The exact parts list would help, especially the motherboard model, PSU model and wattage, RAM kit, and the precise CPU model. Make sure the motherboard supports the new processor and has a BIOS version compatible with it. Since the system shuts off before you can reach the operating system, the temperature reading from the AMD software only describes an earlier successful boot; it does not rule out a power, firmware, or hardware fault now.
Start by checking the simple connections: unplug the PC, reseat the 24-pin motherboard cable and the CPU power cable near the processor, then test with only the motherboard, CPU, cooler, one RAM stick, and the power supply connected. Try the RAM in the recommended slot and check any diagnostic LEDs or beep codes. Also briefly short the two power-switch pins with a screwdriver to rule out a faulty case button.
I’m nervous about doing anything that could damage the board, so I’ll look up the exact power-switch pins and follow the motherboard manual before trying it.
A paperclip test can show whether a PSU fan starts, but it does not prove that the power supply is healthy under load, and it can be risky if done incorrectly. The safest option is to test with a known-good, compatible PSU or use a proper PSU tester. Avoid opening the power supply itself. If a replacement PSU behaves the same way, the motherboard, CPU power connection, or RAM becomes more likely.
