PC Shutting Down with XMP Enabled After CPU Upgrade – What Could Be Wrong?

I recently upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 5 2600 to a Ryzen 5 5600, and the performance boost is incredible! However, I've run into a problem: whenever I enable XMP for my RAM, my computer completely shuts down when under heavy load. This happens right after hitting high usage, like when I launch the game Arc Raiders which maxes out my system resources. There are no error messages or blue screens, it just powers down like it's been unplugged. Disabling XMP lets everything run smoothly, but I'm worried this shutdown could indicate a power supply issue. Here are some details about my setup:

- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 5 5600 (stock cooler)
- **GPU:** SAPPHIRE Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
- **RAM:** Corsair Vengeance DDR4 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz
- **Motherboard:** ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 (latest stable BIOS 10.10)
- **PSU:** XPG CORE Reactor II VE 650W

Under normal conditions without XMP, CPU temps stay under 60°C, but they reach 70°C with XMP before the shutdown occurs. I also tried several troubleshooting methods, including cleaning the CPU thermal paste, reseating the RAM, and adjusting memory settings manually. Any advice on what might be going wrong or what I could try next?

You might want to try removing the CMOS battery for about 5 minutes to reset the BIOS completely. Some people find this method effective in fixing various boot and stability issues. It’s a bit more thorough than just loading UEFI Defaults!

That sounds like a good idea! I’ll definitely give it a try and see if it resolves the issue.

Have you tried loading the default BIOS settings? Sometimes resetting everything can help resolve these types of issues. If you haven't tried that yet, it might be worth a shot. Just remember to save your changes after!

I did load UEFI Defaults, but it still shut down after enabling XMP. So it seems like that didn’t help.
