My PC became completely unresponsive while I was playing Helldivers 2. The screen went black without a blue screen or warning, and since then Windows will not boot. I've already tested the RAM with the motherboard's built-in memory test, tried each stick individually in different slots, and replaced the motherboard and CPU cooler. The graphics card, power supply, and SSD all work correctly in another system. The processor is an Intel Core i7-14700KF, paired with 32GB of DDR5 memory, an RTX 2060 Ti, and a 1000W PSU. When I removed the cooler, the thermal paste looked somewhat uneven, although I hadn't noticed any instability beforehand. Is there anything else I should test before replacing the processor?

The i7-14700KF is part of the 13th- and 14th-generation Intel desktop lineup affected by known instability and degradation problems when older motherboard firmware applies excessive voltage. If the BIOS was never updated with Intel’s corrective microcode, the processor may have degraded or failed, especially after heavy gaming loads. Intel extended the warranty on affected CPUs, so an RMA may be worth pursuing. Update the replacement motherboard to the latest BIOS before installing or extensively testing another processor.

That seems likely. I wasn’t able to update the BIOS on the previous ASUS board, even using the correctly named file through its flashback port. I’m hoping the replacement MSI board will make the firmware update easier.
