Remote Desktop Says All Connections Are in Use on Windows 11 Home

When I try to use Remote Desktop from a computer running Windows 11 Home, I get a message saying that all available connections are already in use. I suspect this happened because I closed the Remote Desktop window with the X instead of properly signing out. How can I end the stuck session or otherwise fix the connection problem?

Are you connecting from the Windows 11 Home computer to another device, or are you trying to connect into the Windows 11 Home computer? Windows 11 Home can act as a Remote Desktop client, but it cannot officially accept incoming Remote Desktop connections as a host. If you’re connecting outward, the session usually needs to be signed out on the remote computer or ended by whoever administers it.
