RTX 3080 Causes System-Wide Stuttering After Several Hours of Uptime

After the computer has been running for several hours, the mouse begins jumping and the entire system becomes sluggish. Once the problem starts, it persists until the PC is restarted. Task Manager does not show unusually high CPU, GPU, or disk usage. While the stuttering is occurring, LatencyMon reports nvlddmkm.sys with a highest execution time of about 5.066 ms, and Event Viewer records NVIDIA driver Event ID 153 involving GPUUID 700.

System specifications:
- Ryzen 7 5700X
- ASUS TUF RTX 3080
- 32 GB DDR4-3200 RAM
- Windows 11, fully updated
- NVIDIA driver 610.88
- ASUS TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS WIFI II motherboard

Windows Update, SFC, and DISM have already been run, and Armoury Crate was updated. Some corrupted system files were repaired. Has anyone dealt with this kind of long-uptime stuttering and elevated nvlddmkm.sys latency? Would rolling back the graphics driver, performing a clean installation with DDU, checking power delivery, or inspecting GPU temperatures be the best next step?

Do a proper clean NVIDIA driver installation with Display Driver Uninstaller. Download the replacement driver beforehand, boot into Safe Mode, remove the existing driver, and install the new one. A reboot temporarily resets the graphics driver and Desktop Window Manager, which can explain why the problem disappears after restarting.

Afterward, run several separate tests: idle at the desktop, watching a normal 720p or 1080p 60 FPS video, and gaming. Check LatencyMon during each test and note whether another driver also reports high execution times. nvlddmkm.sys appearing in LatencyMon during 3D activity is not automatically proof that the GPU driver is defective, so the pattern across tests matters.

Also check the 3080’s temperatures, especially the memory and hotspot readings. If the card has been used for several years and has never been serviced, deteriorated thermal pads or paste can cause increasingly poor behavior after sustained operation. Monitor core, memory, and hotspot temperatures both normally and when the stuttering begins. If the hotspot is excessive, repasting and replacing the pads may be worth considering, but confirm the temperatures first.

Armoury Crate can cause background services, lighting components, and device monitoring to misbehave. I’d uninstall it completely using ASUS’s cleanup utility, then disable any leftover RGB or hardware-monitoring services and see whether the issue returns.
