I recently bought an HP Omen 40L with an upgraded NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB, and it has been crashing since the second day. The system has a Ryzen 5 7600, 16GB of Kingston FURY DDR5-5200 memory, a 1TB WD PCIe NVMe SSD, an AMD B650/AM5 motherboard, Wi‑Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Windows 11 Home. It originally had a 600W 80+ Gold power supply, which I replaced with an 850W unit, but the problem remains.
While playing games such as Fortnite or GSPro golf simulator, the computer works normally for anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours. It then suddenly displays a black screen and completely reboots. I have removed and reinstalled the graphics drivers, updated the motherboard BIOS, and replaced the power supply. Temperatures appear to be normal, although I am still checking the exact readings.
Could this be a faulty graphics card, a motherboard compatibility issue, or a PCIe configuration problem? I read that manually setting PCIe to Gen 4 instead of Auto can help, but the Omen BIOS may not provide that option. What other troubleshooting steps should I try, or should I return the system?

Start by recording the CPU and GPU temperatures, hotspot temperature, and clock speeds while gaming. “Normal” at idle does not rule out a problem under load. Also check Windows Event Viewer for unexpected shutdowns or display-driver errors. Since the PSU and driver reinstall did not help, testing the GPU in another system—or testing a known-good GPU in this one—would be the quickest way to separate a graphics-card fault from a motherboard issue.
If the crashes began almost immediately after purchase and the machine came from a private seller, returning it or requesting a refund is probably the safest solution. A prebuilt that hard-reboots under gaming load could have a defective GPU, unstable memory, damaged PCIe slot, or another hardware problem that is difficult to diagnose remotely.
I bought it through a local marketplace and was hoping to save some money, so returning it may be difficult. I should probably have tested it more thoroughly before buying.
