I'm putting together a small-form-factor PC with a budget of about 5.6 lakh and have narrowed the graphics card choices to an RTX 5060 Ti 8GB for around $370 or an RX 9060 XT 16GB for about $450. Comparison videos often show the 5060 Ti delivering higher average FPS in many games, but I'm concerned that 8GB of VRAM may become a limitation at 1440p, especially as newer games release. I can't move up to a larger or more expensive card such as the RX 9070 XT because of my case and budget. Considering the $70–80 price difference, which card would be the better long-term choice for 1440p gaming?

I’d choose the RX 9060 XT 16GB. Average FPS isn’t the whole story: running out of VRAM can cause texture reductions, stuttering, and poor 1% lows even when benchmark averages look competitive. At 1440p, 8GB is already becoming restrictive in some modern games, and that limitation is likely to become more common over the card’s lifespan.
It gives you more room for high-resolution textures and future games. A card can have a higher average FPS but still stutter or require texture compromises once its memory is full, so the 16GB model is the safer 1440p choice.
For 1440p, I wouldn’t spend nearly $370 on a new 8GB card unless you’re comfortable lowering texture quality in newer games. The RX 9060 XT should age better, and current owners report it handling 3440×1440 reasonably well. The 5060 Ti may be faster in some games, but the 9060 XT offers more consistent long-term headroom.
They may perform similarly in plenty of games, but the 9060 XT’s current price has increased, which makes the value question less straightforward.
Before buying either one, check the used and sale market for a 16GB card such as an RX 7800 XT. If you can find one near $350 and it fits your case, it can outperform both options. Otherwise, between these two, I’d pay the extra money for the 9060 XT 16GB unless you specifically need Nvidia features such as DLSS or CUDA.
The RX 9060 XT makes more sense for this build, particularly because you’re using a compact system and may encounter the combination of limited VRAM and a PCIe x8 interface. The 16GB buffer avoids one of the biggest compromises of the 5060 Ti 8GB. Just make sure the specific 9060 XT model fits your case and has acceptable cooling and power requirements.
There may eventually be low-profile 16GB RX 9060 XT models that are better suited to very small cases. Availability and pricing could be uncertain, so verify the card’s actual length, thickness, power connector, and cooler design rather than assuming every model will fit. If you need a card immediately, the 9060 XT is still the safer pick for 1440p.
That’s what I’m unsure about. If the 5060 Ti produces higher FPS in many comparisons, how does the extra VRAM help when the average frame rate doesn’t change much?
