RX 9070 XT or RTX 5070 Ti for 4K gaming when Nvidia costs $458 more?

I'm building a 4K gaming system in Argentina and GPU prices are extremely high. My current options are a Gigabyte Gaming OC RX 9070 XT 16GB for about $980, an RTX 5070 Ti 16GB for around $1,438, or an RTX 5080 16GB for roughly $2,120. The system will use a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32GB of DDR5, and a 4K 120Hz display. I'd like to stay above 90 FPS whenever possible.

I currently use an RTX 3080 and am familiar with DLSS, ray tracing, and Nvidia's other features. I'm especially interested in frame generation, but I'm having trouble justifying the large premium for the 5070 Ti over the 9070 XT. How well does the 9070 XT handle 4K gaming with upscaling and frame generation? Are DLSS, ray tracing, and Nvidia's other features worth paying nearly $460 extra for? I'd also appreciate experiences with image quality, driver stability, and general reliability.

At 4K, don’t expect either card to deliver a locked 120 FPS in every new AAA game at maximum settings. A target around 90 FPS is realistic with sensible settings, upscaling, and frame generation, but generated frames don’t improve input latency the same way native frames do. Since you’re coming from an RTX 3080, I’d only pay for the 5070 Ti if DLSS and ray tracing are priorities rather than just nice extras.

I’ve used both cards and the real-world 4K difference is smaller than the feature lists suggest. With high settings instead of ultra and a quality upscaling mode, either card can approach 90 FPS in many games, though the most demanding ray-traced titles will need more compromises. FSR 4 can look very close to DLSS in supported games, while Nvidia remains easier if you want consistently excellent ray tracing without tweaking.

For gaming at these prices, I’d choose the RX 9070 XT. Its rasterized performance is very close to the RTX 5070 Ti, and it should handle 4K well with FSR in demanding games. The Nvidia card is better for ray tracing, path tracing, DLSS, and some productivity workloads, but those advantages don’t justify a roughly 45–50% price premium unless you specifically need them. The 5080 is even harder to justify for this build given the price gap.

The RTX 5070 Ti is the more complete card technically. DLSS generally has an advantage in upscaling and frame generation, and Nvidia is noticeably stronger in heavy ray tracing and path tracing. If both cards were similarly priced, I’d take the Nvidia option. At an extra $458, though, the 9070 XT is the much better value for normal gaming.

The 9070 XT is a good fit if you don’t mind occasional tinkering. Tools such as upscaling overrides or frame-generation adjustments can help in games with weaker native support, and AMD’s software is straightforward for tuning. I’ve also seen no major driver or stability problems with either card. For shooters and ordinary rasterized games, the AMD card is the obvious value choice; Nvidia mainly makes sense if you play a lot of path-traced games or strongly prefer DLSS.
