I used streaming software that temporarily disables physical monitors and creates virtual displays for the client. After uninstalling it, my second monitor remained disabled. Windows Display Settings is stuck on "Show only on 1," and any attempt to switch to a different multiple-display option immediately reverts. NVIDIA Control Panel behaves the same way, and the monitor appears with an unusual negative identifier before disabling itself again. I've already reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers, removed display-related registry entries, and tried different GPU ports. The monitor works normally when connected to a laptop. Has anyone seen this behavior or knows how to restore the display configuration?

This sounds like the virtual-display software left Windows with a corrupted display configuration. Before reinstalling Windows, inspect what the program changed and undo those settings, then reboot. A clean graphics-driver reset or removing leftover virtual-display components may also help.
A useful workaround was plugging in a third monitor. Doing that caused the second monitor to come back, and after disconnecting the third one, the multiple-display setting could be changed and stayed fixed. It looks like Windows refreshed its display topology when another physical display was added, so this may have resolved the stuck configuration without reinstalling Windows.
Check whether Display 2 is listed as disconnected or simply inactive. In Display Settings, select the greyed-out monitor and look under Advanced display settings. If it says the monitor is connected to the NVIDIA GPU but isn’t active, Windows is detecting the hardware and the problem is probably the saved display state rather than the cable or monitor.
It appeared as a greyed-out second screen. Advanced display settings reported that Display 2 was connected to the NVIDIA GPU but was not active. The monitor itself worked when connected to another computer.
That worked. Connecting a third monitor revived the second one. After unplugging the third monitor, the second one disabled again briefly, but the multiple-display setting then became editable and stayed applied.
