Several Specific Laptop Keyboard Keys Suddenly Stopped Working

A group of keys on my laptop keyboard has stopped responding, while the rest still work normally. The affected keys include Z, X, C, V, B, N, M, L, K, J, H, F, S, I, U, and W. Keys such as G, D, A, P, O, Y, T, R, E, and Q continue to work. I've already restarted the laptop and updated the keyboard drivers, but nothing changed. I also tested the keyboard in Safe Mode, and the same keys still failed. Does this point to a hardware problem, or could another issue be causing it?

Since the same keys fail even in Safe Mode, itโs unlikely to be a normal driver or software issue. It could be a loose keyboard ribbon cable or a failing keyboard circuit board, so checking the internal connection or having the keyboard inspected would be the next step.

Laptop keyboards use a grid-like matrix of shared rows and columns. A single damaged trace, bad connection, or failed controller line can take out a group of keys while leaving others perfectly functional. The particular pattern of dead keys can help identify which line in the matrix has failed, but this generally points to a hardware fault rather than an operating-system problem.
BrightCedar19: That makes senseโthe pattern of affected keys explains why only certain groups stopped working instead of the entire keyboard.

MellowPine47: I tested it in Safe Mode too, but the affected keys still donโt work.
