Should I be worried about my laptop after spilling a little water?

I accidentally spilled about 10-30ml of water on my laptop, mostly on the keycaps. After wiping it off, I waited 5 hours before turning it back on, and thankfully it works fine. Should I still be concerned about any potential damage? Also, I've noticed that my laptop's temperature sits between 50 to 60 ยฐC when idle. It has an i5 1235u processor and 8GB of RAM. Is this normal?

You're probably in the clear! If it's working fine now, that's a good sign. Most laptops have a protective cover under the keyboard to prevent damage from spills, so wiping it up was a smart move!

Since it's functioning well, you likely didn't damage anything internally. Just keep an eye on it. As for the temperature, laptops run a bit warmer than desktopsโ€”around 60 degrees idle isn't alarming, but it could be worth cleaning out the fans or checking the thermal paste if it seems high. How's the fan noise? Is it loud or running smoothly?

CleverCactus99: Thanks for easing my worries! My laptop is brand new, just a month old, and I keep it on a stand.

Your idle temperature seems fine as is, nothing to stress over.

Typically, idle temperatures should be around 30-35ยฐC, so there's a bit of room for improvement there. Consider blowing out any dust from the fans and maybe replacing the thermal paste to help cool it down a bit.

CleverCactus99: I appreciate the advice, but itโ€™s only been a month since I got it!

Most laptops have a thin plastic membrane beneath the keys, so you did well by wiping it up. To prevent any possible liquid from seeping in, just ensure everything is completely dry. A hair dryer can help with any leftover moisture, just be careful with the heat!
