I'm planning a completely new gaming PC, mainly with GTA VI in mind. My current system has a GeForce RTX 2080 Super from a 2019 build, and I'm considering buying an RTX 5080 now. Prices seem to have climbed from around $1,500 to roughly $1,900, so I'm unsure whether to build immediately or wait for better deals, newer graphics cards, or more information about the game's PC requirements. I already plan to play it on console first, but I'd like a PC version too. What would you do?

Since you’re planning a whole new build, don’t focus only on the graphics card. A much newer CPU, sufficient RAM, fast storage, and a quality power supply will matter too. Buying a 5080 today and pairing it with an older platform would be a poor upgrade, but a balanced new system makes sense if you have other games or workloads that justify it.
If you need a PC soon, buy when you find a reasonable price rather than assuming prices will drop. GPU and memory prices have been unpredictable, and waiting doesn’t guarantee a discount. It’s also worth comparing the RTX 5080 with alternatives such as the Radeon RX 9070 XT, especially for 1440p gaming, since the 5080 can be expensive for the performance it delivers.
Consider waiting for major holiday sales or the next GPU generation if your current 2080 Super is still doing what you need. A 2080 Super can remain usable at 1440p with adjusted settings, and buying several years before the PC release could mean you’re paying for hardware that is no longer the best choice when the game finally arrives.
There’s no confirmed PC release date or system requirements yet, and it could be several years after the console launch. If GTA VI is the only reason for the upgrade, waiting makes more sense. Build now only if you also want better performance for other games or everyday use.
