I'm trying to figure out whether I should go ahead and buy a 5080 at the current MSRP or hold off and see if I can snag one on sale in a month or two. I'm currently using a 9800x3d alongside an older Zotac 2080. It's decent for 1440p gaming, but it's starting to struggle, so I really want to upgrade soon.

Honestly, I’d recommend buying now. The price is unlikely to drop significantly anytime soon, and once the Supers launch, the 5080 might be tougher to find. You could be waiting for months before inventory stabilizes again, and even then it may not be worth the wait.
Just bought a 5080 today and I’m really happy with it! If you feel like you're gonna get good use out of it soon, I wouldn't hesitate. Just be cautious of the scalpers that might pop up later.
Buying it at MSRP is a good move. The pricing is much better now compared to when it was first released. This card should perform well at both 1440p and even 4K, so if you're looking for an upgrade, it’ll definitely be worth it.
If you're already ready to upgrade, I’d go for it now. You want to make sure you can use it right away since GPU's tend to sell out, especially towards the end of the year. Plus, with rumors of Nvidia possibly reducing production ahead of next year's Super models, waiting could mean a longer wait for prices to drop back to MSRP.
I think the 5080 is a bit overpriced even at MSRP. Sure, it provides better FPS, but it’s not that much of a jump for the price. If you get it, be prepared to think about upgrading your monitor too, since you’ll probably want to maximize its potential.
