Should I Choose a 2TB or 4TB SSD Right Now?

Hey everyone! I'm considering the Samsung 990 Pro SSD and I'm torn between the 2TB version priced at $495 AUD and the 4TB version on sale for $789 AUD. With SSD prices possibly climbing even more in the future, I'm wondering if it's wise to invest in the 4TB now, or if I should just go for the 2TB and maybe grab another later if prices drop. What do you all think?

In my opinion, given the current market, I'd hold off on buying anything unless necessary. But if you really need more space, I'd stretch to get the 4TB drive. Brands like WD and Samsung are really solid; just grab whichever one is cheapest.

You might want to consider a 4TB Crucial NVMe for a lower price around $649, or even $540 on Amazon Australia. I've found Samsung to be a bit overrated. Crucial is backed by Micron, which has a great reputation for reliability. Performance-wise, you often won't notice much difference in real-world usage.

If you’re running low on space and don’t have a dedicated SSD for your OS, the 4TB would be a smart choice. It really helps to have the extra room, especially for personal files.

If you actually need 4TB, just go for it! The market's unpredictable, and getting a good deal like the Samsung 990 Pro isn't something you might see again. Plus, you might not find the 2TB under $300 anytime soon, especially considering how prices are fluctuating. In the end, you'll likely end up paying around $800 regardless.

I'd recommend getting two 2TB SSDs instead of the 4TB. This way, you can also invest in a larger HDD for general storage. Personally, I use a 1TB SSD for my OS and programs, another 1TB SSD for heavier loads, and I've got an 8TB HDD for backups and media. It helps balance performance and cost.

Great idea! I never thought about using an HDD for backups, that would definitely save some money.
