I'm putting together a system with an Intel i5-12400F and can get either a used RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT for roughly the same price. The RTX 3070 would cost about $280, while the RX 6700 XT is around $240. Which card offers better value for gaming, and is the 3070's extra performance worth paying more for its 8GB of VRAM?

For a used purchase, condition and warranty should also matter. Check temperatures, fan noise, and whether either card has been heavily mined on. If both are in similar condition, I’d choose the 6700 XT at $240; the 3070 would need to be closer in price to make the trade-off worthwhile.
Both cards are fairly close overall. I’d lean toward the 6700 XT here because it costs $40 less and has 50% more VRAM. The RTX 3070 makes more sense if you specifically care about ray tracing, CUDA-related workloads, or DLSS. Otherwise, the AMD card should give you better value for regular gaming.
